Went to the Grizzly Bear Munich concert in the “Theaterfabrik” yesterday. Awesome! Multi-layered music, with so many details! Rich in hues and textures. Hadn’t even noticed some of the details when listening to the CDs. The dynamic shifts in “Southern Point” were amazing.

Daniel Rossen had a whole collection of guitars on the stage.
Chris Taylor played clarinette, flute, saxophone and used several effect pedals, in a hectic though attractive way, switching instruments, doing vocals, sometimes sitting on the floor near his consoles, playing, singing and producing at the same time. The effects don’t really sound like effects, they are integrated into the song in a subtle way.

The lighting effects were amazing too, they brought a hallucinatory / dreamy aspect to the songs. The stage was sequentially bathed in red, then shifted to purple, green, blue, yellow, to complete darkness, then illuminated only be the light of lightbulbs in glass jars (hanging or placed on the floor), then back again. All orchestrated with the music.

Back… Back?

I’m back! Well at least I hope so! I’ve been really busy the last months and completely neglected my blog… My news? An amazing trip to Italy: Val Camonica, Cinque Terre, Lucca, Pisa, Florence… You should visit Cinque Terre, it’s an absolutely amazing part of the Earth:

In the meanwhile I’ve created many new disability awareness posters and t-shirts with a bunch of new slogans like “Disability poses no limits to sport“, “Disability poses no limits to sex“, “Help disabled kids reach their potential“… My new disability awareness calendar 2009 is on its way too:

Some new environmental posters too: “Teach children to respect and conserve our natural resources (Then make sure you practice what you preach!)”:

A new Green Calendar 2009 is on its way too, with a mixture of old and new designs about gas conservation, going green and the natural world. Lots of people liked and bought my environmental calendar last year, so I hope I’ll make some more walls green and cheerful this year!

Funny piano videos

Have you heard of Aleksey Igudesman and Richard Hyung-ki Joo? They were pupils of the Yehudi Menuhin School, now they are presenting a genious show, the “Little Nightmare Music”, marrying lots of humour with lots of musical talent. They have already performed all around the world, so if you’ve never heard of them, just watch these youtube videos. In the first one, the pianist is using wood blocks to play the difficult Rachmaninov chords; in the second, the violonist is playing with a milk forther! The third video shows some interesting piano teaching techniques and how-to’s for music teachers…

To blog or not to blog? This is the question…

I’ve been wishing to create a blog for a long time but some concerns didn’t let me blog…

My main problem was: what language should I blog in? I usually think in a mixture of languages, depending on many things, like the theme, the context, my feelings… I once started a trilingual blog but I got lost in it and deleted it. I will try to keep this one in English if you promise to excuse my occasional mistakes.

My second concern was: what should I blog about? I will try to announce here my new designs and artworks and talk about my ongoing activities. There will also be some context on the creations (my inspiration, political context, current-events context, historical, artistic, biographical, whatever…) and eventually some Photoshop, Indesign and Corel Draw how-tos.

My third concern: will I consequently write this time, or will this new blog end up like all the other ones? I’ve created several blogs in the past and tested several blogging systems, but I always and systematically deleted the blogs after a couple of days – or let them get lost unfinished and anonymous in the Internet chaos. Well, I promise to do my best to keep you informed on my current activities.
